![]() ![]() Through this process we identified problems with hardware, software and firmware. Wondering why its not shutting down I clicked on "force quit" to see what was opened and it said "Orion Studio Control is not responding." I forced quit the application and my computer shut down. I sat there waiting and watching as my computer remained open for 2-3 minutes. I closed the control panel (the appropriate way) disconnected the unit and put it back in its box. Dave said it looks like a have a faulty unit and recommended I send it back. Under Dave's advice we disconnected the Thunderbolt and connected the until via USB and set up the appropriate routing to reflect so. Saw the serial number, clicked on it and connected to Antelope and installed the older software. Had to close software down and restart the computer. Had to close the software out are restart the computer. So we opened the control panel back up to initiate process 1 and. Dave said their was a new firmware release that same day (which is what we installed) and there could be an issue so recommended we go back the the previous firmware and install it (from 2.15 to 2.14). Under advisement I A/B the monitors which the sound then switched to the rack mount itself. We finally got the updates installed (took about 10 minutes) completed the routing to set up the monitors and I heard an obnoxious crackling sound coming out of my Dyn Audio monitors. The update completed 75% at which time there was then an error prompt so we had to shut down the Imac and start over. This happened 4 times (open control panel, close control panel, restart computer) before we finally saw the serial number at which point we began the updates. I was told to close everything and restart the computer which I did. After force quitting I was asked to reopen the control panel. ![]() I need to close the panel by hitting their "x" on the right. ![]() ![]() As my system was now hung up Dave sid there is a known issue when the control panel will not close down by hitting the red button on the left. Being on a Mac I pressed the red x in the upper left corner of the control panel. However, to get process 1 to work I was asked to close out the control panel. I left him a message explaining my problems with process 1. Once again I needed to call Dave in Ann Arbor. You click on it, then click on "Connect" which connects you to Antelope Audio where you put in your user name and password and then you can begin firmware updates (Lets call this process I just explained process 1). Apparently the serial number is suppose to pop up on the control screen. Went through the installation of the driver then launched the control panel. I clicked on the DMG driver (I'm on an Imac 3.4 GHZ, core I7 16 GB ram). having to regularly stop and back up the video to see exactly what he was doing to get the unit going (download drivers, control panel etc). This ticked me off as it moves at such a rapid pace you would think the presented had something better to do and was just getting it done. I immediately pulled up the YouTube "getting started" video. My irritation level was still present as I moved forward with great optimism. I was immediately disappointed but I figured the unit is going to be racked so I'll only ever see the beautiful silver face on the front of the unit. As I was starring at it I noticed the top of the unit did not appear to have the smoothest of paint jobs. I pulled the rack out of the box then out of the bag and viewed my prized possession. Everything professionally insulated, bagged, protected and taped. I will say that that the pre sales support was really good especially dealing with their US support tech Dave out of Ann Arbor Michigan. I had done EXTENSIVE research for 4 weeks on Ensemble Thunderbolt, Apollo 8P and Orion Studio. I open it with anticipation and excitement as I need a minimum of 12 pres. So I pulled the trigger last week and bought the Orion Studio from Sweetwater Sounds. ![]()
